New Delhi: The national capital experienced its coldest morning of the season as temperatures plunged sharply across all weather stations, intensifying cold wave conditions and causing severe discomfort for residents.

Coldest Morning Recorded This Season

Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest January temperature since 2023. Palam registered an even lower 2.3 degrees Celsius, marking its coldest January reading since 2010. Ayanagar reported 2.7 degrees, Lodhi Road recorded 3.4 degrees, while the Ridge station saw a low of 4.5 degrees Celsius.

Cold Wave Conditions Persist Across Delhi

All monitoring stations reported temperatures significantly below normal, indicating the continued grip of a cold wave across the capital. Delhi has been facing cold wave conditions for the past four days, and meteorological officials expect the chill to persist through at least another day. The maximum temperature on Thursday is likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius.

Air Quality Remains A Concern

Alongside the biting cold, air pollution levels worsened, with Delhi’s Air Quality Index standing at 349, placing it firmly in the ‘very poor’ category as per Central Pollution Control Board data. Such conditions add to health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory ailments.
