Dhanbad:  3 rowdy youths assault doctor, nurses in Topchachi CHC

Dhanbad, Oct 28: Three rowdy youths assaulted and abused a doctor, nurses, and female health staff at the Topchachi Sahubahar community health centre (CHC),  around 27 km from here on Friday.

The youths, who were in drunken condition created commotion for 20 to 25 minutes, even did not spare the female patients admitted to the hospital. The doctor and nurses said the assaulters did not reveal the reason for assaulting and abusing them.

Topchachi CHC medical officer-in-charge Dr Ashutosh Kumar Singh has in this regard lodged a written complaint along with CCTV footage of the incident in the Topchachi police station today.

Dr Singh said that the incident occurred at around 11.45 pm on Friday. Three youths who were in inebriated condition came to the hospital and began assaulting and abusing Dr Praveen Kumar and nurses on duty at night. Getting information medical officer in charge  Dr Singh also reached the hospital at around 12.20 and assured protection to them.

“ I can’t repeat the filthy words the youths used against the doctor and nurses without any reason. It looks they did it just to create panic among doctors and nurses,” he said.

The Medical officer in -charge duly informed the Topchachi circle officer (CO), block development officer, deputy commissioner (DC), Senior superintendent of police (SSP) and superintendent of police (rural) to ensure protection at the hospital.

The Topchachi CHC falls in Naxals influenced region. Though home guards are deployed there round the clock, the security facility was withdrawn due to the Durga Puja festival.

A resident said that two years ago some anti-social elements had similarly assaulted doctors and nurses but police did not take action.
