Dhanbad, Aug 22: The Dhanbad POCSO court today awarded 20 years jail sentence to a youth identified as Vickky Bhuyan for sexually exploiting a minor girl in a three-year-old case.

The POCSO court special judge Prabhakar Singh while delivering the judgment also slapped a penalty of  Rs 10,000 on the accused for refusing to marry, besides  20 years jail sentence.

The Assistant Public Prosecutor  (APP) said that the court held Vickky Bhuyan guilty in the case on Monday and had reserved the announcement of the quantum of punishment for Tuesday (today).

As per an FIR lodged in Chirkunda police station of the district, around 38 km from here, the accused sexually exploited the minor girl while promising to marry her in 2020. But when the victim became pregnant, he refused to marry and offered money for an abortion.

Finally, the victim’s family members lodged an FIR against him in the Chirkunda police station. After investigation, police filed a charge sheet against the accused on November 8, 2020. A total of five witnesses appeared in the court.
