Dhanbad, Feb 25: A week-long workshop on ‘stochastic Modelling Technique’ in IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad concluded with keynote addresses delivered by experts of eminent technical institutions (IITs) of the country.
Prof Dhiraj Kumar, the deputy director of IIT ISM was the chief guest of the closing ceremony and he shed light on the subject of the workshop and praised the organisers for organising such an event which provided a platform to experts across the country to share their experience and knowledge with PhD and PG students.
The workshop was organised by the department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, to which Prof Raghu Nandan Sengupta of IIT Kanpur, Prof Sandeep Mandal and Prof Niladri Das of IIT ISM also addressed.
Prof Rajni Singh, dean of Media & Branding, while delivering the keynote address said that the topic of the workshop ‘Research Communication & Ethical Values’ was interesting from all points of view and the session turned out to be quite an interactive one.
Prof Rashmi Singh, programme coordinator, in her address gave details of five days workshop and pointed out the keynote address delivered by different renowned experts.
“The workshop was a step towards bringing national and international experts from academic institutes, research organizations, scientific institutes, and industry in the field of stochastic modelling technique as key resource persons for sharing their expertise with PhD and PG students,” said the coordinator Prof Singh.
She said the aim of the workshop was to expose the participants to the latest theoretical developments of applied stochastic models and also learn practical applications in diverse areas of engineering, science, technology, business and industrial applications. This will include telecommunications, computer networking, wireless communication systems, fault-tolerant electronic and mechanical equipment, power plants, transportation systems, chemical sciences, cryptography, ecology and others.
Out of 142 applications, 26 applicants were selected from various institutes like IIT Madras, IIT, Delhi, IIT, Goa, IIT, Bhubaneswar, NIT, Calicut, NIT, Jalandhar, NIT, Durgapur, NIT, Rourkela, IIEST, Shibpur, Jadavpur University, Central University of Bilaspur, Central University of Odisha, Delhi Technological University, AMU, Aligarh, IIIT, Allahabad, IMT, Ghaziabad.
The participants were PhD and PG students in Mathematics and Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and
Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Material Science, Nanotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Operations Management, and Behavioral Finance.
The workshop was inaugurated on 20th February, by Prof. Dipti Prasad Mukherjee, Deputy Director, ISI, Kolkata. Prof. Karmeshu, (North Cap University) and Prof, Shiv Nadar ( former Dean of the School of Computational and Integrative Sciences, JNU ) were also present.
