Dhanbad, May 17: Dhanbad police arrested five contract criminals on Tuesday who were involved in three recent and major shootouts in the district for extortion.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar on Tuesday late afternoon told media persons that all arrested criminals were in contact with absconding Wasseypur gangster Prince Khan. They have been identified as Ayan Khan alias Nanu, Shamim Raja Ansari alias Chhotu, Rashid Javed alias Raju, Altaf Raja and Sajid Ansari.

“Police have recovered a pistol, a country-made pistol, a bike used in committing crimes and five mobile phones. Seized mobile phones have been sent for forensic test,” said the SSP.

He further said that these criminals committed three major crimes within one and half months to create terror in the coal city. They had fired in front of a tyre showroom in broad daylight at Matkuria under Bank More police station on March 28.

The second incident happened in the Pandarpala area of Wasseypur by firing on the house of cloth merchant Shamim Ansari on May 6 and in the third incident, they shot three bullets on Chhotu Ansari with an intention of murder on May 7.

The SSP said that police are identifying the people who directly or indirectly supported this gang to create terror in the region.

Two days ago, police arrested two criminals involved in the killing of MRF Tyre showroom owner Ranjit Sab who was shot in his establishment last month in Jharia.
