Dhanbad: Senior Prof of SNMMCH retires after 26 years of service, felicitated

Dhanbad, Dec 31:One of the senior professors of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad Dr Ajay Kumar, department of pathology and blood bank in-charge retired today from the institution after serving for 26 years.

Dr Ajay Kumar joined the then Patliputra Medical College Hospital (now SNMMCH) in 1996 after serving 10 years in rural health service in undivided Bihar (from 1986 to 1996) and retired today.

A lively and enthusiastic farewell was given in honour of Dr Kumar today in which SNMMCH superintendent Dr AK Barnbal, pathology head of department Dr BC Banerjee and HoD of different departments and senior teachers highly appreciated the contribution of  Dr Ajay Kumar to the institution, Medical Council of India (MCI)/ National Medical Commission in different roles.

“We worked together for a long time in the institution and he always looked serious, dedicated and cooperative in the welfare of the department,” said Dr BC Banerjee, HoD pathology.

Besides teaching in college Dr Ajay Kumar was also an assessor (Inspector) and Co-ordinator of MCI/NMC, New Delhi. He was an examiner of UG and PG at several universities in the country. He was Member

Secretary of the institutional Ethics Committee, PMCH, Dhanbad, SME  JPSC  Ranchi. Dr Ajay Kumar had also authored 6 publications in the field of pathology in an indexed journal.

Dr Ajay Kumar completed his MBBS (1980) and post-graduation (1986) from Darbhanga Medical College Hospital. He completed his MD pathology from Rajendra Medical College, Ranchi in 1990.

Dr Ajay Kumar became an assistant professor at PMCH in 1999 and an associate professor in 2009. He became a professor in 2013 and HoD  Blood bank n 2018.

At the farewell function Dr UK Ojha, Dr  Pratibha Rai, Dr Krishna Kumari, Dr Laxmi Tubid, Dr Shashi Lal, Dr Avinash Kumar, Dr Sunil Kumar Verma, Dr Ganesh Kumar and other faculty members also recalled the contribution of Dr Ajay Kumar during his 27 years teaching career in the institution.
