Dhanbad, July 4: For the first time, a health camp for budding sportspersons was organized in Dhanbad where over 50 boy and girl badminton players were examined and given health-related tips by experts.

The day-long health camp was organized by the district badminton association in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dhanbad (Mid Town) and Fortis Hospital in Kala Bhawan of the indoor stadium. Besides health tips, expert doctors and physiotherapists also gave motivational advice to budding players.

After the height and weight measurement of the players, Dr Naushad (paediatrician), Dr Vivek Prakash (dentist) and Dr Sangeet Gupta (physiotherapist) conducted a thorough check-up and advised the kids on how to maintain the health and fitness of the body.

Physiotherapist Dr Sangeet Gupta advised the players on how to keep fit and what to do in cases of cramps or muscle injuries while playing.

“Advised of doctor for combating cramps like problem enhanced my mental confidence as I always feared for possible injury while playing on the court,” said Anamika Ghosh (15).

Another player Om Singh (12), while expressing satisfaction with the tips in the health camp, said he had focused only on physical training and playing on the court but in the camp, I came to know that height and weight also count for the player and it requires proper attention.

Dhanbad District Badminton Association Secretary Samrat Choudhary said that the aim of holding check-up camps for players is to keep them fit for the ensuing state and national level badminton championships.

“Since now players are pursuing their career in sports from childhood, it is our responsibility to provide them health tips of expert physicians on how to keep themselves fit,” said Chaudhary.

NIS coach Sandeep Dey said that the health report of each player would be monitored and the advice of doctors would be followed on a priority basis. He said besides players, their parents were also checked up (blood pressure, sugar, weight) at the camp.

Dr Rakesh Inder Singh, Satish Singh, Rahul Goel, Dinesh Mandal, Vishnu Kant Bhagat of Rotract Youth wing Pammy Kishore and Pawan  Kumar were among the main organizers of the first health camp of the district specially organized for child players.
