Kolkata: On the night of August 9, the parents of the 31-year-old doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital received three alarming phone calls from a hospital employee. The details of these calls, which have recently come to light, have added to the grief and confusion surrounding the horrific incident.

According to a report, the first call was made by the assistant superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, who urgently requested the victim’s parents to come to the hospital, saying, “Your daughter is not well. Can you please come to the hospital immediately?” When the victim’s father pressed for more details, the caller simply stated that she wasn’t well and was being admitted to the hospital. Despite further inquiries, the caller insisted that the doctors would explain everything upon their arrival.

The second call, which came shortly after, conveyed a more dire message, with the caller stating that the woman’s condition was “very critical.”

The most distressing of all was the third call, where the staff member nervously told the parents, “She might have committed suicide or died. The police are here. We are at the hospital, in front of everyone, making this call.” This vague and troubling statement only deepened the parents’ anxiety and confusion.

The doctor, who was on a grueling 36-hour shift, had gone to the seminar hall of the hospital to rest when she was allegedly attacked by Sanjay Roy. The autopsy report later confirmed the horrific truth: the doctor had been raped and murdered. The report also revealed that her body bore 25 internal and external injuries, painting a grim picture of the brutality she endured.

Sanjay Roy was arrested after CCTV footage showed him entering the seminar hall at 4:03 AM on August 9. The investigation into the crime is ongoing, with Roy as the prime suspect.

Adding to the controversy, the Supreme Court has criticized Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for allegedly attempting to dismiss the case as a suicide rather than acknowledging the heinous nature of the crime.

The vague and unsettling nature of the phone calls made to the victim’s parents on the night of the incident raises serious concerns about the handling of the situation by hospital staff. As the investigation continues, these calls will likely be a key part of understanding the full scope of what transpired that night.
