New Delhi: Stand-up comedian Daniel Fernandes has reassured fans of Samay Raina that they need not worry about him amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the India’s Got Latent show.
During a recent gig, Fernandes took a dig at the country’s legal system, sarcastically suggesting that Samay Raina might be let off with just a simple essay.
“There are a lot of Samay fans in the country who are quite worried for him. Is that right? Are you worried about him? Don’t be, because with the way things are done in this country, all they’ll ask him to do is write a 300-word essay, and he’ll be out,” he quipped.
Adding to his commentary on the larger issue, he said, “India definitely has a sense of humor. We just don’t know it.”
Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy: What Happened?
The controversy began when Ranveer Allahbadia, a judge on India’s Got Latent, asked a contestant an inappropriate question about their parents during an episode hosted by Samay Raina. The comment sparked massive outrage, leading to multiple FIRs filed against Allahbadia. The controversy escalated to the Supreme Court, which pulled up Allahbadia for his remarks.
Daniel Fernandes on Ranveer Allahbadia’s Case
Fernandes also addressed the backlash surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia, comparing the recurring outrage against comedians to a seasonal flu.
“Have you guys followed the news this past week? Just one headline everywhere because all the other issues in India have been resolved. Outrage in Indian comedy is like flu season. Every six months, somebody will watch a video and go… my sentiments,” he joked.
However, Fernandes admitted that this time, the controversy had serious consequences, with multiple FIRs and videos being taken down.
With the case still under Supreme Court scrutiny, the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent and its participants continues to stir debate over freedom of speech and content policing in India.
