Ranchi, April 29: DPS Ranchi today hosted a meet under the aegis of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) CoE Patna, on how to make classrooms a happy place.
The resource persons of this programme were Neha Sonkar and Prabhanjan Kumar. The objective of this workshop was to create happy classrooms while working with unbridled enthusiasm. The programme was attended by 65 teachers of various CBSE schools.
The programme began with an introductory session which attempted to define happiness through brainstorming and discussion in the house. The resource person pinned the point that a happy classroom is possible only when the teachers are happy. The teachers were advised to leave all their worries, stress, anxiety and tensions outside the classroom. The teachers were made to perform certain activities which made them aware of their strengths, weaknesses and skills in handling a difficult situation at workplace. The workshop also focused on understanding Emotional Intelligence & Behaviour Analysis-ways to deliver happiness in the classrooms.
The resource persons highlighted the strategies for a happy classroom which included adopting certain approaches that encourage students to learn, like experiential method, storytelling etc. The teachers were invited to state their perspectives on various situations like importance of exploring ‘self’, work on self-awareness, learn self-regulation, time management, achieve social competence and learn relationship management through various interactive activities which helped the teachers remain actively involved in the session. By quoting various examples they mentioned that it was very important to reduce the communication gap between the student- teacher- parent trio for developing healthy and cordial relationship amongst them.
They emphasized that teacher needs to introspect and adopt various creative techniques while dealing with students who create behaviour issues in the classroom. They further implored that every teacher should ensure that praising and appreciating students for even their smallest of achievement can work as a catalyst in boosting the morale of a child. Various techniques for making the teaching learning process effective such as storytelling, one-minute activities, role play etc were also a part of the workshop which kept the participants energized till the end.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ram Singh, Principal, DPS Ranchi and CBSE City Coordinator, Ranchi Zone, said, “Teaching should take place in such a way that teacher can reach the soul of every student so that every classroom will become a happy classroom. Having positive relationships with peers and adults within school can create healthy learning environment. Happy classrooms only can help scholars to manage and overcome their fears, worries and limiting beliefs”.
