Melbourne, Feb 11: S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister (EAM), is in Melbourne for the 4th Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which began on Friday.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar will be in Australia from February 10 to 13, at the invitation of his Australian counterpart Marise Payne. According to the MEA, this will be his first trip to Australia as Minister of External Affairs.

“As pandemic continues to impact us, we’ve undertaken collective efforts to address global health security, Quad vaccine initiative &our collective vaccine delivery. These have been very crucial for countries in Indo-Pacific to meet these challenges,” said EAM S Jaishankar, in Melbourne.

Notably, the fourth Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is being held in Australia, and the top diplomats are looking to strengthen cooperation in areas such as the economy, security, the coronavirus epidemic, and a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) is a collaboration of four countries, each of which is committed to openness, transparency, and addressing the issues posed by the existing global order.

The Quad Foreign Ministers are gathering for the first time since the two Quad Summits last year. Australia’s foreign minister, Marise Payne will meet with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss the Quad’s constructive and ambitious agenda.

During their bilateral phone calls and talks, they will address ongoing Quad cooperation. Because the four countries have strong bilateral ties, they are strengthening their institutional ties to expand Quad collaboration in sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, space, and education.
