Chandigarh, Mar 10: Early indications from Punjab’s vote counting show that Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is taking a commanding lead, as predicted by all exit polls.
Congress has been pushed to second place in a tough multi-cornered battle, with Akalis battling to catch up.
“We’re ‘aam aadmi’ but when ‘Aam Aadmi’ rises mightiest of thrones shake. Today’s an important day in India’s history, not only because AAP is winning one more state but because it has become a national force. AAP will become Congress’ replacement,” said AAP’s Punjab co-in charge Raghav Chadha.
As of 10:20 am, trends have AAP at 86 and Congress at 14 out of total 117 seats. Akalis are at 11 and BJP and allies at 5.
Bhagwant Mann is the Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate in Punjab from the Dhuri assembly constituency. He is a comedian-turned-politician, is a two-time Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from the Sangrur parliamentary seat.
