Ranchi, May 3: A 25-year-youth slit the throat of his 4-year-old cousin in a fit of rage.

The incident took place on Monday evening at Jojotili, about 100km from Ranchi under the Kamdara police station area of the Gumla district. An FIR was registered in this connection today.

Superintendent of police of the district Ehtesham Waquarib confirmed the incident saying the accused was arrested.

“We have arrested the accused and are trying to ascertain what infuriated him,” Waqurib said.

The victim’s name is Harsh Joy Kerketta. His mother Bilasi Kandulna was not at home when the incident took place as she was undergoing nursing training at Khunti.

According to the victim’s father Anup Kerketta, the accused used a knife.

“The youth is eccentric. He brutally committed the crime in the courtyard and escaped. After a few minutes he returned and started challenging villagers with a sharp-edged weapon in his hand,” a police official said
