Ranchi, April 21: The ED has rejected IAS officer and ex-Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan’s plea to grant him two weeks’ time to get ready and reply to the agency’s questions regarding the army land scam.

The ED, according to sources, has directed him to appear for questioning at 4 pm today itself or face the consequences.

The ED had issued him summons a few days back to appear today and face questions over the land scam in Ranchi. Seven persons, including a circle inspector, have already been arrested and being questioned by the ED at present.

The ED wants to question Ranjan on how the transfer of huge chunk of land, including the ones in possession of the Indian army were transferred by creating fake owners and papers during his tenure as deputy commissioner in Ranchi.

The role of Ranjan in transferring several pieces of prime lands had already been questioned several times by the then Divisional Commissioner N M Kulkarni in his report sent to the state government. The revenue department is said to have turned a blind eye to all these reports.

Incidentally, Chhavi Ranjan stands chargesheeted in a case for cutting trees in the official campus of the Koderma DC, when he was posted there as DC.
