New Delhi, April 11: The ED questioned senior Congress politician Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday as part of its money laundering investigation into the National Herald case.

According to officials, the 79-year-old Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha has been asked to appear before the federal agency in connection with the investigation.

According to sources, his statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) since the agency wants to better understand some of the difficulties in the inquiry.

Notably, in the suspected corruption case involving National Herald, Young India, and Associated Journals Limited, several key Congress leaders are being investigated by the ED and the IRS (AJL). The ED attached a property in Haryana worth Rs 64 crore in this matter last year, which was a big setback for the Congress party. The site in Panchkula, Haryana, was allegedly fraudulently given by then-Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to the Associated Journals Limited (AJL).
