Ranchi: In a major crackdown, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted raids at 11 locations across Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal in connection with the Bihar constable recruitment scam. The raids were part of an investigation into financial irregularities tied to the 2023 recruitment process, masterminded by Sanjeev Mukhia—who is also accused in the infamous NEET paper leak case.
Widespread irregularities in constable exam
The recruitment exam held in October 2023 was marred by serious irregularities, including question paper leaks and manipulation during the physical tests. The Bihar Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) later cancelled the examination due to the scale of the malpractice. An SIT probe had earlier confirmed the use of digital devices and Bluetooth tools during the exams.
Multiple states under ED scanner
Following the registration of an ECIR, ED’s Patna unit launched simultaneous raids on June 19. The locations targeted include Patna, Nalanda, Ranchi, Lucknow, and Kolkata, all reportedly connected to individuals involved in the scam. The ED is probing suspected money laundering linked to illicit profits from the scam operations.
Early arrests and legal moves
Earlier, Bihar’s Economic Offences Wing had registered FIRs and carried out multiple arrests after uncovering the cheating network. Meanwhile, Vinay Singh, owner of the firm NexGen, which is allegedly involved in the process, has filed a criminal writ petition in the High Court to challenge ongoing legal action.
