Ranchi May 15: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday carried a surprise raid at the Birsa Munda Central Jail against IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan and power broker Prem Prakash who are lodged at this jail under the charge of money laundering.
Highly placed sources said that the ED during the raid seized CCTV footages of the jail premises pertaining to a day after Ranjan was arrested. In the CCTV footage, Prem Prakash is seen entering inside the cell of Chhavi Ranjan covering his face. At 6.40 PM he is seen entering the cell of Chhavi Ranjan and left at 7.36 PM.
The ED will now question the jail superintendent Hamid Ansari in this regard.
The agency carried out this raid following the permission of the PMLA court. The agency alleged it has definite information that the jail authorities have arranged meeting of Chhavi Ranjan and Prem Prakash so that they hatch a conspiracy to hush up the case and destroy the evidence.
Ranjan, during interrogation by the ED, has denied that he knew Prem Prakash or Amit Agarwal.
The ED arrested Chhavi Ranjan on May 5 in connection with the Indian Army land scam and Cheshire Home land scam. Chhavi Ranjan as DC of Ranchi had helped land mafias to grab the Indian Army land besides a private land at Bariatu. Though the ED arrested Prem Prakash last year in mining scam he was also involved in the land scam.
However, Chhavi Ranjan during questioning had refused that he ever knew Prem Prakash. But the fresh evidence has come as a clinching evidence against them. The ED is also likely to book Hamid Ansari under PMLA for assisting in the crime as he illegally organized their meeting.
