Beijing, Jan 19: At least eight people were killed in an avalanche in the city of Nyingchi in the southwestern region of Tibet, reported the state media.
After the deadly avalanche, the Chinese government sent a team to help in recovering the bodies and search for missing people.
As per information, an avalanche struck the road between Pai Village in Mainling County and the exit of the Doxong La Tunnel in Medog County at around 8 pm on Tuesday, stranding people and vehicles.
Moreover, the number of people missing is not clear and authorities have not released any further details.

The local authorities have sent 131 people and 28 vehicles to the scene overnight, reported Global Times on Thursday. China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has also sent a working group to Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
On Wednesday, the emergency rescue headquarters dispatched 246 rescuers, more than 70 vehicles, 10 pieces of large-scale equipment and 994 search equipment to dig a rescue passage.
Notably, Nyingchi is located at an average elevation of around 3,100 metres and is also called ‘the Switzerland of Tibet’.
