Elephant herd tramples couple to death in Hazaribagh village

Ramgarh, April 15: A couple died after a herd of elephants attacked them in Bedmakki of Khargu Panchayat of Chalkusha block under Hazaribagh district.

 

The victims have been identified as Bhikhlal Pandit (60) and his wife Shanti Devi (55).

 

Both had gone to the forest in the morning to pick up ‘Mahua’ when they were attacked by the elephants. Bhikhlal died on the spot while Shanti Devi suffered serious injuries. She was rushed to Hazaribagh for treatment but died on the way near Vishnugarh.

 

After the death of the couple, Ranger Anand Kumar Singh reached their house with a team. He gave Rs. 1 lakh as immediate assistance to the son of the deceased couple.

 

He said that Rs. 6 lakhs will be given to the dependent after the report of the CO.  According to the villagers, the elephants have been creating a ruckus in the area for a week.
