Ranchi, April 14:  Former chief minister of Jharkhand and BJP national vice president Raghubar Das appealed to the backward community not to vote in favour of UPA-backed candidates in the forthcoming Panchayat election as the latter has betrayed the entire backward classes.

“The Hemant government of Jharkhand has done the work of stabbing backward classes in the back. Despite sufficient time, the government deliberately did not conduct the survey of backward classes, as a result of which reservation for backward classes has not been done and panchayat election has been announced,” Das said.

Das said under Section 6 of Article 243 (D) of the Constitution of India, a provision has been made for the reservation of backward classes in local bodies. In the year 2010, in the case of K. Krishnamurthy v. Government of India, the Supreme Court upheld the said provision. Along with this, Das said, the court asked to prepare a survey report on the political backwardness of the backward classes.

Keeping this in mind, Das said, the survey work of backward classes was started by his government in Jharkhand in 2019 but as soon as the Hemant government came into power, the  ruling alliance partners-Congress, JMM and RJD-stopped the survey under a well-planned conspiracy and thus deprived backward classes of the reservation provided by the Indian Constitution in the Panchayat elections.
