New Delhi: A powerful explosion occurred near the CRPF school in Delhi’s Rohini area early Sunday morning, causing significant damage to the school’s wall and nearby cars and shops. No injuries have been reported so far, but the incident has triggered a massive investigation, with forensic teams and officers from the Delhi Police’s special cell at the scene.
The explosion, which took place at 7:47 am near Prashant Vihar, shattered the window panes of several cars parked near the school and damaged signboards of nearby shops. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud noise followed by a plume of smoke rising from the blast site.
A local resident who captured a video of the incident said, “I heard a loud sound and saw smoke. I recorded the video but don’t know much more. The police and ambulance reached the spot soon after.”
Senior police officer Amit Goel confirmed that forensic experts have been called in to determine the cause of the explosion. Preliminary investigations suggest the blast may have originated from the underground sewage line, although no suspicious material has been found at the site so far.
“The blast damaged the school wall and shattered the glass of nearby shops and cars. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported,” the police said in a statement. “A foul smell was detected at the scene, and bomb disposal and fire brigade teams have been deployed. The area has been cordoned off, and the investigation is ongoing.”
In an update, police sources indicated that a crude bomb may have been responsible for the explosion. The National Security Guard (NSG) and a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have also been informed and are likely to visit the site for further assessment.
