Bhubaneswar, April 15: The Indian men’s hockey team defeated Germany 3-0 in the first match of the two-leg tie on Thursday to extend its lead in the FIH Pro League standings.

Vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh continued his goal-scoring spree with a brace as the Indian men’s hockey team extended its lead in the FIH Pro League standings.

In the 18th and 27th minutes, Harmanpreet converted two penalty corners for India, while Abhishek scored from another set piece in the 45th minute.

The massive disparity between the two sides was clearly noticeable, with half of Germany’s 22-man squad making their senior debut here.

With this victory, India has maintained its lead at the top of the table with 24 points from 11 games, while Germany is in second place with 17 points from nine games. Now on Friday, both teams will face off in the second match of the tie at the Kalinga Stadium.
