Daltonganj, Nov.25: Pipra police station in Palamu district has lodged an FIR against 19 named and 70 to 80 unidentified people on charge of making bid on the lives of cops on the night of November 23 near Chaparwar on the NH 98.

The charges are further multiple like blocking NH 98, damaging government vehicle, creating terror in the area and preventing government officer from performing official duty and others.

The FIR is stated to have been drawn on November 23 but its details became public late at night on November 24 as a press note was signed and released by the officer in-charge of Pipra police station, Suraj Chail.

Police have invoked as many as 14 sections of the IPC including section 307 which is ‘attempt to murder’ against the accused. They have also invoked one section of ‘Damage to the Public Property Act,’ making the bail process of the entire fleet of the accused difficult.

The FIR has been lodged after a sub-inspector, Abhay Anand, of Pipra police station had sustained head injuries when a mob of people attacked him with stones on the night of November 23.

The mob got infuriated when a 50 year old Labhra village resident Sheonandan Yadav was hit by an unidentified vehicle to death on NH 98. They felt the Pipra police did not act fast and swiftly to intercept the vehicle and resorted to pelting stones at the team of the cops.

Police officials Suraj Chail, Ajay Yadav and Benjamin Lakra were also hurt but suffered minor injuries.

However, sources in the police head quarter Ranchi said the Pipra police handled the post accident situation in a lackadaisical manner and had the police team not been inept in its handling, this attack on SI Abhay Anand would not have taken place.

The post accident violence needs to be investigated from the angle as to where the local police erred, said the sources in the police head quarter Ranchi.
