Samastipur, Dec 30: An FIR has been filed against RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav for allegedly hiding property details in the affidavit filed during the Bihar assembly election in 2020, police informed on Thursday.
The FIR has been registered in Samastipur’s Rosera Police station. An investigation by the Election Commission of India led to the filing of the FIR against the RJD MLA. Tej Pratap has been charged under Section 125(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 for hiding immovable property.
Following that, a copy of the complaint was sent to the Election Commission of India, which then referred the matter to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) for investigation.
According to the FIR application, Tej Pratap Yadav filed nomination papers as a Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate on October 13, 2020. A complaint was filled in this matter by Janata Dal (United) with the Chief Electoral Officer.
Following the orders of Election Commission and the instructions of the District Election Officer and Deputy Collector Land Reforms (DCLR), The Rosera Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Brajesh Kumar has taken action against the RJD leader. A copy of the complaint was sent to the Election Commission of India, who asked the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) for investigation.
The CBDT, after investigating this matter, concluded that there was an increase of Rs 82,40867 in assets (movable and immovable) between the affidavits filed by Tej Pratap Yadav for the Bihar assembly elections 2015 and 2020. Whereas, according to the income tax returns from the financial year 2015-16 to 2016-20, the total income is Rs 22,76220.
After CBDT’s investigation, Election Commission sent a show cause notice to Hasanpur MLA Tej Pratap Yadav for giving wrong information in the affidavit. He was asked to reply in the matter within three weeks’ time. However, after the RJD MLA failed to respond in the given time, an FIR was registered against him.
