Bareilly: Bollywood actress Disha Patani’s residence in Civil Lines, Bareilly, was rocked by gunfire early Friday when unidentified assailants allegedly fired two rounds outside her house around 4:30 am. Panic spread in the neighbourhood as police rushed to the spot and began an investigation. Initial findings suggest the incident has been claimed by gangster Rohit Godara and the Goldy Brar gang.
Threat Post Surfaces on Social Media
Hours after the firing, a threatening post went viral, naming Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran alias Delana, and accusing Disha’s sister Khushboo Patani of insulting Hindu deities and Sanatan Dharma. The message described the shots as a “trailer” and warned of harsher actions if such acts continued, vowing that no one would be spared next time.
Film Industry Also Warned
The same post extended its warning beyond Khushboo, cautioning the entire film industry against disrespecting religious sentiments. The note has triggered concern not only among police but also in Bollywood circles, heightening unease over security and free expression.
Police Tighten Security and Probe Motive
Bareilly police have increased security around Disha Patani’s home and nearby areas. Cyber teams are analysing the viral message, while a special investigation team has been formed to identify and arrest those involved.
Background of the Controversy
The dispute stems from remarks by religious preacher Aniruddhacharya criticising women in live-in relationships, followed by a viral video involving Premanandji Maharaj. Khushboo Patani was accused online of speaking against him, leading to hate posts and threats. She has since clarified that her comments were misinterpreted and that she never intended to offend religious sentiments.
