Floods and landslides wreak havoc: 47 killed in Uttarakhand, 27 in Kerala

Dehradun, Oct 20: Incessant rains have created a flood situation in many states of the country. Heavy rains caused floods in Uttarakhand and Kerala. On Tuesday, 42 people died in accidents due to floods and rains in Uttarakhand. Most of the deaths have been caused by cloudbursts and landslides. Many people are still buried under the rubble. So far 47 people have lost their lives in the state due to the rains.

In Almora, 3 children were crushed to death due to the collapse of the house from the landslide. There are also reports of a woman being injured and a missing person. Many areas of the district have completely cut off contact with the rest.

Rescue operation is on to rescue the people trapped under the rubble. Indian Air Force personnel are engaged in relief and rescue operations in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

Several districts of Kerala have also received heavy rainfall, due to which flood situations have arisen. At least 27 people have died in floods and landslides in different parts of the state. There are also reports of some people missing.

The Indian Meteorological Department said that this southern state has received 135% more rain between October 1 and 19. Normally, this period receives 192.7 mm of rain, but this year 453.5 mm of rainfall has been recorded.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) on Wednesday continues its orange alert warning following heavy rains in Kerala.
