Baramati: A team of forensic specialists carried out a detailed investigation at the Baramati plane crash site in Maharashtra on Friday, where Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others lost their lives. The on-site examination was conducted in the presence of Maharashtra Police officials as part of an intensified probe.
Black Box Recovered, Crash Investigation Underway
This forensic investigation comes a day after the black box of the ill-fated Learjet 45 was recovered. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is currently leading the inquiry and is gathering critical evidence from the crash zone near the Baramati tabletop airstrip.
Crash During Second Landing Attempt in Low Visibility
Preliminary visuals from the site showed forensic experts inspecting the tail section of the aircraft, which was attempting to land amid poor visibility. The crash occurred during the jet’s second landing attempt, approximately 200 metres from the runway.
Ajit Pawar’s Ashes Collected by Family
Earlier today, the Pawar family — including his sons Jay and Parth, and his 85-year-old uncle Sharad Pawar — collected the ashes of the late Deputy CM from Vidya Prathisthan Ground in Baramati, where a massive crowd of supporters gathered yesterday for his funeral.
Victims of the Crash
The crash claimed the lives of:
-
Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra
-
Sumit Kapur, Pilot-in-command
-
Captain Shambhavi Pathak, Co-pilot
-
Pinky Mali, Flight Attendant
-
Vidip Jadhav, Pawar’s Personal Security Officer
Eyewitnesses revealed that the charred remains of the aircraft made identification nearly impossible — it was Ajit Pawar’s wristwatch that ultimately helped confirm his identity.
