New Delhi, Dec 25: Jai Ram Thakur, a former chief minister and six-term lawmaker, was announced as the legislative party’s new head on Sunday, according to a senior member of the state’s opposition party.
In the November state elections, the Congress defeated the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, obtaining 40 of the assembly’s 68 seats. 25 seats went to the saffron party, and three went to independents.
According to senior party leader and chairman of the election management committee Mangal Pandey, Thakur was chosen unanimously because each of the 24 BJP MLAs had put forward his name for the position.
Thakur, the state’s BJP leader Suresh Kashyap, the state’s BJP in-charges and co-in charges Avinash Rai Khanna and Sanjay Tandon, as well as central observer Vinod Tawda, all attended a meeting of the BJP MLAs here.
