Ranchi/New Delhi: Former Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam, accused in a massive money laundering case linked to a tender scam, has approached the Supreme Court seeking bail. His move comes after the Jharkhand High Court denied his bail plea on July 11.

High Court Rejection Led to Supreme Court Plea

The bail application was earlier dismissed by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad of the Jharkhand High Court. Following this, Alam has now filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court, requesting relief from custody.

Arrested by ED in May 2023 Over Cash Recovery

Alamgir Alam was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 15, 2023, and has been in jail since. The arrest followed the recovery of ₹32.30 crore in cash from his personal secretary Sanjeev Kumar Lal and domestic help Jahangir Alam. This substantial cash seizure formed the basis of ED’s charges and subsequent arrest of the former minister.
