Dhanbad, June 2: The four-day Stem Robotics summer camp began today at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad for the students of government schools and colleges.
More than 60 students of nine government schools and colleges from different parts of the districts are learning about nuances of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine from experts.
IIT ISM director Prof Rajiv Shekhar inaugurated the camp. On the occasion, deputy director Prof Dheeraj Kumar, acting dean (Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship) Prof Pankaj Mishra and coordinator innovation office of the dean were also present.
The camp is being organized by Naresh Vashistha Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI).
Prof Shekhar while addressing the students, exhorted the students to concentrate on innovation which will lead them to the path of excellence.
“Everyone is running for a government job nowadays because in private jobs the salaries despite tremendous hard work are not commensurate but it is also true that securing a govt job is difficult so the way out is to go for innovation and concentrate on some product development,” he said.
The Director assured to provide all the facilities of infrastructure and training to innovate and carry out product development and the four-day summer camp is the first step in this direction where experts will not only apprise the students about the latest happenings in science and technology but also guide them with all necessary tips for product development.
He also urged the students to carry out studies in order to learn new things and gain knowledge and not merely for accumulating degrees and certificates which will have no significance in dealing with the real-life struggle for jobs and entrepreneurship.
Prof Dheeraj Kumar in his address said there is a clear-cut distinction between the two terms, Shiksha and Vidya, and while the former nowadays somehow is linked to having degrees, the latter has an innate meaning of getting knowledge. He advised the students to choose for gaining Vidya.
Prof Pankaj Mishra apprised the students about the different features of the four-day camp, including hands-on practicals on mobile robots, cutting-edge technology showcases, collaborative problem-solving activities, application and sensor technology, experience of AR/VR technology and practical application.
Manish Kumar Sharma, a student of RS More College Govindpur, expressed satisfaction with the class and said they learnt about robotics and its applications in general life.
