Four die, one injured in fire at pharma company lab in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam, Dec 27: Four workers died and one person received severe burn injuries after a fire broke out at a pharma company lab in Parwada Mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district on Monday evening.

As per information, the fire broke out at unit-III of Laurus Labs Limited located at JN Pharma City at around 3 pm on Monday. The workers in the pharmacy tried to stop it. However, before the gas leak could be controlled, an explosion occurred as well.

The deceased were identified as Rambabu Bingi (32) of Khammam, Rajesh Babu Talasila (36) of Guntur, Ramakrishna Rapeti (30) of K Kotapadu of Anakapalli district and Majji Venkata Rao (28) of Chodavaram Anakapalli district. However, Y Satish of Ranagareddy district, who was seriously injured, has been admitted.

According to the pharmacy’s management, the fire took at Unit-3 of Laurus Company in Pharma city in Visakhapatnam, due to a short circuit while the workers were cleaning the unit. Fire & rescue personnel reached the spot immediately after the accident and brought the fire under control.

“At around 3 pm on Monday, a gas leak took place in Unit-3 of Laurus Company in Pharma city. Some workers tried to stop the gas leak, but suddenly a blast took place followed by fire. In this incident, 4 died in the blast, including two contract workers and 2 permanent workers. One person named Satish was seriously injured in this incident. He is being treated at KIMS Hospital, ” said the Parwada Police Inspector.

Further investigations are underway.
