Jamshedpur, Aug 13: In a major breakthrough, the police have arrested four persons, including two notorious criminals following a vehicle-checking drive in Bistupur.

Those arrested were identified as Mohammed Fayaz (19), Sajid Sheikh (21), Rajan Kumar (29) and Vikash Mane.

While arresting these persons, the police seized a loaded pistol, two gold chains and a motorcycle from their possession.

Revealing about the breakthrough, SP (Rural), Mukesh Lunayat said that following instructions from the senior SP, Prabhat Kumar, the Bistupur police had launched a vehicle-checking drive near the G-Town Club in Bistupur on Saturday night.

“During the drive, two bike-borne youths tried to dodge the checking party by deviating from the checking point, but they were caught half a kilometre away near Kharkai bridge. On checking, the police found a loaded pistol in the possession of the pillion rider. After interrogation, it was established that the duo identified as Mohammed Fayaz and Sajid Sheikh used to commit chain-snatching at gunpoint, ” said Lunayat while talking to the newsmen at a press conference this evening.

The Rural SP pointed out the two who are residents of Mango are history sheeters and had been to jail more than once.

“During interrogation, the two divulged that they had snatched gold chain from two women in Jugsalai and Baradwari areas on 5.8.2023 and 8.8.2023 respectively and sold the stolen chains to two separate jewellers having shops in Mango and Sonari areas respectively.  The two jewellers were arrested and the stolen gold chains were recovered from their shops this morning, ” the senior police officer stated.
