Dubai: After India’s commanding six-wicket victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash, head coach Gautam Gambhir reminded players to maintain professionalism by shaking hands with the match officials. The gesture followed India’s earlier decision to skip handshakes during the group-stage game as a mark of respect for Pahalgam terror victims and the armed forces involved in Operation Sindoor.
Coach Stresses Respect and Discipline
Standing near the boundary ropes after the match, Gambhir was heard telling the squad, “Meet the umpires at least,” encouraging them to acknowledge officials before leaving the field. The message highlighted his focus on discipline and sportsmanship despite the tense backdrop of India-Pakistan contests.
India’s Batting Stars Seal the Chase
On the pitch, openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill powered India’s reply to Pakistan’s 172. Sharma smashed 74 off 39 balls, while Gill added 47 off 28 in a 105-run stand. Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 30 and Hardik Pandya’s calm 7 ensured a comfortable finish after quick wickets, following Shivam Dube’s key breakthroughs with the ball.
