New Delhi, May 25: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was brought from jail in Gujarat to Delhi early on Thursday and taken to the Mandoli prison in the national capital, officials said.
According to an official, Bishoi was transferred to the Mandoli jail for security concerns.
This follows the murder of Tillu Tajpuria in Tihar Jail earlier this month, and the jail management decided to detain Bishoni in a different prison to avoid any chance of a gang war, according to sources.
Tajpuriya, an accused in the Rohini court shooting case in Delhi, was fatally stabbed by members of an opposing gang on May 2.
Lawrence Bishnoi, according to sources, has been held in jail cell number 15.
At around 12.30 am, the renowned criminal was taken from Gujarat to the Delhi airport under heavy security.
In connection with a case of drug smuggling across borders, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) got custody of Bishnoi last month. The Gujarat ATS was given 14 days of custody of Bishnoi by the magistrate’s court in Nalia, Kutch.
Bishnoi has previously been in the custody of the NIA and Punjab Police.
