Daltonganj, June 8: Garhwa district has made a very miserable performance in the conduct of the precaution dose vaccination of the 60+ age group.
In other categories like 18+, 12 -14 etc, the performance of Garhwa is very good but the vulnerable age group 60+ for the precaution dose remain in a bad form here.
A government data dated May 25, which is being analysed and referred to as data of alarm, (available with lagatar24.com) read as against the target of 1,30,000 precaution doses of the Covid vaccines for 60+, Garhwa district could do mere 1491 vaccinations which come to just 1 percent.
Garhwa district epidemiologist Dr S K Mishra said, “We are trying to convince and motivate 60+ eligibles for precaution dose. They are being pursued by our teams not to defer their precaution dose anymore now.”
Apart from Garhwa, three more districts in the state (Simdega, Chatra and Sahibganj) have recorded just 1 percent precaution dose vaccination.
Simdega did 349 precaution vaccination, Chatra 1478 and Sahibganj 1508 till May 25.
According to the sources in the CMO (Chief Minister’s Office), these four districts need a fresh impetus and this can be only possible when there is a change of guard in the form of the civil surgeon.
Health personnel turn lethargic
It is not just that eligibles have become cold and indifferent to Covid vaccination. The majority of the civil surgeons and district reproductive child health officers have become lethargic and disinclined to keep the pace of vaccination, admitted sources in the state health department and directorate of national health mission.
They said the regional deputy director of health services across Jharkhand treat themselves as one who believe that Covid vaccination is the cup of tea of the district reproductive child health officer and civil surgeon only and not any of their business.
A doctor requesting anonymity said the regional deputy director of health services should be made accountable for the Covid vaccination as others like the district reproductive child health officer and civil surgeon.
This doctor also raised the question if the regional deputy director of health services reviews the progress of the vaccination and briefs media persons about it.
He said the role of the regional deputy director of health services has been left to sign the salary bills and other bills only.
