New Delhi, Feb 10: Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday was scheduled to deliver the state’s budget before the Assembly. Before realising that the Budget he was delivering was an old one, he began reading the Budget speech and continued for several minutes. Mahesh Joshi, a Congress minister, eventually managed to stop him.
Gehlot began reading the text while referencing previous schemes and urban development plans that had been put into place the previous year. At that point, Gehlot was halted by Congressman Mahesh Joshi, and the chief minister apologised.
After members of the opposition BJP barged into the House during the budget presentation, the Assembly’s business was interrupted. Gulab Chand Kataria, the head of the BJP and the leader of the Rajasthan opposition, questioned whether the budget had been leaked.
“This budget cannot be presented. Was it leaked?,” he asked.
Opposition slammed Gehlot for the blunder and asked for his apology.
Gehlot also hit back at the Opposition and said, “You can point out only if there’s a difference between what’s written in the Budget in my hand and its copies given to the House members.”
He rejected the leak allegations and asked how such a question could arise. He asserted that a page was added to his Budget copy by mistake. The proceedings of the Assembly were adjourned for 30 minutes after a ruckus broke out in the House
