New Delhi, Sept 26: A month after quitting Congress, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad announces the name of his new party as ‘Democratic Azad Party’.

“Around 1,500 names for my new party were sent to us, in Urdu, Sanskrit. The mix of Hindi & Urdu is ‘Hindustani’. We want the name to be democratic, peaceful and independent,” said Ghulam Nabi Azad, in Jammu.

He held a press conference today to unveil his new political outfit. Unveiling the flag of his new ‘Democratic Azad Party’, he said, “Mustard colour indicates creativity and unity in diversity, white indicates peace and blue indicates freedom, open space, imagination and limits from the depths of the ocean to the heights of the sky.”

On 26 August, the 73-year-old man resigned from the Congress just days after rejecting a position in the party’s Jammu and Kashmir branch, claiming that his recommendations for nominations were ignored. His departure triggered a huge flight of Congress politicians from the Jammu and Kashmir branch.
