Ranchi, May 18: The School Education and Literacy Minister Jagarnath Mahato has passed orders to change the colour of about 35,000 government school buildings in Jharkhand.
The school buildings will now be painted ‘the party colour’ green and off-white, while doors and windows will also be painted green. Weather coats are also to be used now over the decorative paintings on school buildings.
Point-wise information regarding colour and painting has been given to the districts that have been asked to complete the process as per instructions issued. At present, the colour of the school buildings is pink, while the doors and windows are golden brown in colour.
Talking in this regard, JEPC State Project Director Kiran Kumari Pasi said, “These colours have been chosen by Minister Mahato as per orders of the government. I don’t think that there is any relation between the ruling party colours and school buildings being painted green.”
As per records, in the year 2002-03, the colour of the school buildings was changed from yellow to pink. This was done after orders from the Project Director level. In the year 2014-15, the colour of the school buildings was changed again, where it was bright pink for the building, the border was terracotta and the colour of the windows and doors was golden brown. Meanwhile, in the year 2018-19, the colour of the buildings was kept the same, but the colour of the toilet was changed.
As per information, an amount in the form of grant money is given every year to the government schools of the state. This amount is spent on repairs, painting and cleaning of the building as per the requirement. Sources say this amount is given according to the number of students.
In schools where the number of children enrolled is 30, Rs 10,000 is given to those institutions, while Rs 25,000 is provided to a school with 31 to 100 enrollments. Similarly, Rs 50,000 is distributed among schools with an enrollment of 101 to 250, and Rs 75,000 is allotted to a school with an enrollment of 251 to one thousand. On the other hand, around Rs, one lakh is given to schools with an enrollment of more than 1,000.
