New Delhi, Aug 7: Arvind Kejriwal, national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stated on Sunday that if his party wins the next Assembly elections in Gujarat, it will guarantee a constant supply of electricity throughout the state and waive all outstanding debts.

On Saturday, Kejriwal began a two-day visit to Gujarat, which is dominated by the BJP and has elections scheduled for the end of the year.

If elected to power in Gujarat, Kejriwal’s party will offer free electricity up to 300 units per month, he vowed last month. In addition, he stated that if the AAP won the election in the state where the BJP has held power since 1998, all electricity bills up to December 2021 would be waived.

After the assembly elections, the free electricity programme will be implemented in Gujarat within three months, he vowed.

Citing the AAP government’s efforts in the power sector in Delhi and Punjab as examples, Kejriwal on Sunday said, “Our first promise is regarding power supply. People in Gujarat are in misery. The bills are too high. We have made power supply free in Delhi. 25 lakh households in Punjab have just recently got zero electricity bills.”

“Soon, a total of Punjab 51 lakh households would get just zero bills. We would also ensure a round-the-clock power supply here in Gujarat. We would also waive off the bills from the previous year,” he said at a press conference in the poll-bound state.
