Gyanvapi mosque row: Varanasi court adjourns hearing till July 12

Varanasi, July 4: The hearing in the Gyanvapi Mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple complex dispute has been postponed to July 12 by the Varanasi District and Sessions court.

47 of the 51 grounds specified in the Muslim side’s argument contesting the maintainability of the lawsuit brought by the Hindu parties wanting to conduct worship at the Mosque have already been provided by attorney Abhay Nath Yadav, who is representing the Muslims in the case.

“The Muslim side has given its arguments, the date for the next hearing is July 12, keeping in mind everyone’s convenience. The Muslim side to keep its arguments on law-point in front of the court then,” Advocate Vishnu Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi Masjid survey matter, said.

The Varanasi District Court started hearing arguments from the mosque management committee on Monday earlier in the day, disputing the maintainability of a petition asking for authorization to perform prayers to Hindu deities at the Gyanvapi Masjid complex.

According to a lawyer for the petitioner women, the Varanasi District Court postponed the hearing on the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee’s argument opposing the maintainability of a lawsuit brought by Hindu women until July 4.
