Varanasi, May 17: The commission in charge of the videography survey of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex will on Tuesday seek additional time from a local court to submit its report as it is yet to be prepared.

The court had earlier asked the commission to submit the report by Tuesday. The commission had been given till Tuesday to present its report by the court.

The mosque is next to the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple, and a group of women has petitioned the local court for permission to worship daily before the idols on the mosque’s exterior walls.

A municipal court ordered the closing of a well in the Gyanvapi Masjid compound on Monday after lawyers for Hindu petitioners claimed a Shivling was discovered there during the court-ordered videography survey.

A member of the mosque management committee, on the other hand, refuted the story, claiming that the object was part of the water fountain mechanism at the wazookhana reservoir, where worshipers perform ablutions before performing namaz.

Syed Mohammad Yasin, joint secretary of the Anjuman Intezamiya Masjid Committee, stated that the mosque management was not heard before Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar issued the decision.

The Supreme Court refused to grant an interim order of status quo on the survey last Friday. However, the Supreme Court decided to hear a Muslim party’s appeal against the survey.
