Hazaribag, March 5: Pratappur police in Chatra district on Sunday got a big success against the liquor mafia. The police seized huge consignments of canned beer kept for supply in the dry state of Bihar for the upcoming Holi festival.

On the basis of secret information received by Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan, a special team of Pratappur police constituted under the leadership of police inspector cum in-charge of police station in-charge Luv Kumar. The team caught this consignment of illegal canned beer which the gang was to supply in the dry state of Bihar during Holi.

Sources said the raiding party seized 240 cans of beer. This consignment of illegal English liquor was recovered from the house of one Lakhan Saw, a resident of Dharampur village of Chandri Govindpur Panchayat.  Lakhan’s house is on the Jharkhand-Bihar border, so this consignment was stored there.

Police officials said that this consignment of liquor had been stocked in huge quantities with the aim of earning a hefty profit during Holi. Taking quick action on the information, a raiding team was formed. The team raided the house of Lakhan Saw, and a total of 240 bottles of God Father company’s English beer cans were recovered. These beer cans were kept in three plastic sacks. During the raid, members of the house escaped. Kumar confirmed the recovery and said the search was on for those involved.
