Hazaribag, Dec 24: The district police on Saturday said they seized 150 bottles of country-made liquor from an SUV plying on the GT road on Friday.

Hazaribag SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe confirmed this success and said he alerted the Chouparan police constituting a team to nab the smugglers after getting a tip-off that smugglers are transporting a consignment of country-made liquor packed in 150 bottles, each having 180ML, in an SUV.

A team led by Chouparan officer-in-charge Shambhu Nand Ishwar began the vehicle checking drive on Pandeybara chowk. Soon, a white-coloured SUV was seen coming and the policemen signalled the driver to stop the vehicle. But he steered the vehicle towards Selhara village, making the police team chase the smugglers.

After a cat-mouse run, the smugglers dumped the SUV at an abandoned place and escaped. The police found country-made liquor and several fake number plates in the vehicle.

Police officials said they are now probing this case and trying to ascertain the actual registration number of the SUV to reach its owner. “Once the owner is identified, it will be easy for us to reach to the smugglers who escaped from Selhara,” they added.
