Hazaribag, Dec 2: A team led by Sadar subdivisional police officer Mahesh Prajapati was assembled by Hazaribag SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe in response to a tip-off and arrested four drug peddlers with 300 gms of commercial-grade brown sugar, which sells for between Rs 8-10 lakh in the market.
Uttam Tiwary, the officer in charge of the Korra police station, confirmed the recovery and arrest on Friday afternoon. The arrested were identified as Rajdeep Prasad, Shahid Ansari, Matuk Singh and Indrajeet Kumar Singh. All are residents of Hazaribag.
As per sources, a search was carried out near Inter Science College in Jabra after the SP received the tip-off. The police spotted a suspicious car (JH02BC/0184) and when it was forced to stop and searched, they found 300 grams of brown sugar.
The arrested peddlers admitted to making 1 gram packet of brown sugar and selling it at high prices in the town.
OC Tiwary said this arrest and recovery is a major blow to the illegal business of drugs. “We are taking all possible measures to put a check on this illegal activity. All four were sent to jail after FIR was lodged against them in various sections including the NDPS Act,” he added.
