VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR
Hazaribag, Sept 29: 20-year-old Puja Kumari, who was shot dead by her husband was laid to rest at her in-laws’ house in Napokhurd village of Barkagaon block on Wednesday night. Angry villagers and her relatives decided not to burn the dead body but to bury her at her in-laws’ house making a grave.
Puja was murdered by her husband Shashi Kumar on Tuesday night (September 27) after a quarrel between the duo.
After knowing about the death, Puja’s parents, relatives and villagers gathered outside Shashi’s house, damaging his bike to furniture and setting ablaze a few household items before the arrival of the police.
As Barkagaon police led by officer-in-charge Binod Tirkey arrested Shashi, villagers sitting outside his house with Puja’s dead body finally agreed to make a grave of the slain woman. She was buried there and a grave made with her name and date of death was mentioned atop.
A villager Subodh Kumar said what Shashi did had brought shame to the entire village. By burying Puja here, we gave the right she deserved,” added another villager.
Shashi and Puja got married on June 15 this year and her family said she was killed for Rs 6 lakh which they failed to give as dowry.
Police officials said Shashi admitted killing his wife during late-night interrogation. “We are trying to get more details from him,” they said.
