MANOJ SINHA

Ramgarh, July 23: A resident of Godhiya village of Daharbhanga Panchayat under Hazaribagh district, killed his wife Poonam Devi, four-year-old minor son and dumped their bodies into a well on Friday evening. The man is identified as Sanjay Prasad.

The police reached out to the information of accused relatives, took out the body of the wife and son and sent it for post-mortem.  The police arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.

The father of the deceased has lodged an FIR for dowry in Tatijharia police station.  Poonam has two daughters and a son and was married about 12 years ago to Sanjay Prasad, son of Beni Mahto, a resident of Godhia.

As soon as the news of the murder broke, the whole village got angry and started looking for the killer and his relatives. The police somehow pacified the matter and arrested the accused and brought him to the police station.

The mother-in-law and other family members fled after the incident.  FIR has been registered in Tatijharia police station on the application of Poonam’s father Ramchandra Prasad. Husband Sanjay Prasad, father-in-law Beni Mahto, mother-in-law Geeta Devi, and brother-in-law Pawan Kumar have been accused of murder.

The body was recovered from the well in the house. The villagers had informed the family about the murder.

The father informed the police that her daughter never lived happily in that house. He added that a tractor was given in dowry along with a few instalments of money.  Despite this, he harassed them for a car as a dowry. Panchayats were held many times but finally, they killed her daughter.
