PRINCE KUMAR
Ranchi, Feb 1: A person’s talent has no bars which was reflected when Mahesh Manjhi (60), a resident of Murki village in Tatijharia, Hazaribagh, developed an irrigation machine on his own through ‘jugaad’.
In this innovation, water is removed from the motor pump with the help of a cycle and there is no need for fuel or electricity.
Mahesh used an idle motor pump for its construction. After opening the rear tire of the bicycle, he put a belt in it and connected it to the water pump and made arrangements for irrigation.
Now, he does not have to depend on electricity from motor pumps for irrigation or for water requirements for other household works.
The idea of making this machine came to Mahesh’s mind when the ‘tullu pump’ got damaged. His whole family is dependent on agriculture. In such a situation, due to lack of money and resources problems started in farming.
Then Mahesh made a bicycle irrigation machine with this amazing idea. There is a pond next to the farm. The paddle is hit by a cycle irrigation machine in the pond and the water reaches the fields.
Mahesh Manjhi of the tribal society has studied till fifth standard but his thinking is quite different.
“Our father has made it. He asked us to bring some items and we brought the same and gave it and he made this machine out of it,” said Mahesh’s son.
“Now irrigation has become easy and is happening in our farm. We are able to cultivate potatoes, onions, tomatoes and brinjals. Other farmers can also add water to their fields through this machine” he added.
