Sambhal: Security has been significantly increased in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, especially around the Shahi Jama Masjid, ahead of Friday prayers following recent violence during an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) examination of the Mughal-era mosque.

To prevent further unrest, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed, and drones are being used to monitor the area. Metal detectors have also been installed, ensuring comprehensive security measures in the district.

The escalation in security comes after the November 24 incident, which saw violent clashes, including stone-pelting, during the ASI survey of the mosque. The violence claimed five lives and left several injured, including both locals and officials.

Judicial Probe Initiated

In response to the incident, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel announced the formation of a three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission. The commission, headed by retired Allahabad High Court justice Devendra Kumar Arora, will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and transparency.

Supreme Court Intervention

The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea filed by the Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid Committee on Friday. According to the cause list dated November 29 on the apex court’s website, the matter will be heard by a bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna.

Enhanced Vigilance

Local authorities have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain peace and order in the region. “We are committed to ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during Friday prayers,” a senior official said, emphasizing the need for vigilance to prevent further escalations.
