Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state government to reserve five seats in the JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination 2023 until further orders, while hearing a petition challenging the exam results. The order was issued by Justice Anand Sen’s bench in response to a petition filed by differently-abled candidate Rahul Vardhan.

Petitioner’s Argument on Disability Quota

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that 13 posts were earmarked for differently-abled candidates, but only eight appointments were made. Taking note of this, the court instructed that no recruitment should be carried out for the remaining five posts until further directions, and sought a response from both JPSC and the state government. Advocates Rajeev Sinha and Rohit Sinha argued the case for the petitioner.

Background of the JPSC 2023 Examination

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission had invited applications in February 2024 for the 2023 civil services recruitment, which included 207 Deputy Collector posts, 35 DSP posts, and a total of 342 vacancies. Candidates were granted an age relaxation of seven years. Among the advertised vacancies, 155 were unreserved. JPSC released the results of the examination last month.
