Dharmshala, Sept 3: Officials visited the Khaniyara locality on Saturday, a day after a cloudburst caused a flash flood, and gave the go-ahead for relief workers to intensify their efforts for the rehabilitation of those impacted.

Numerous homes and businesses were devastated by the torrential rain on Friday. In addition, 45 animals and goats were lost, and 15 dwellings and 3 shops suffered minor damage.

Along with Superintendent of Police Kushal Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Kangra Nipun Jindal paid a visit to Khaniyara this morning. In order to prevent complications for individuals affected by the heavy rains, Jindal gave instructions to the aid workers to speed up restoration activities.

In order to begin relief and recovery efforts as soon as news of a disaster is received, disaster management control rooms have been established at the district and sub-district levels, he said.

A nullah in Khaniyara village overflowed as a result of the Friday’s heavy rain, causing damage to both private and public property in the main market.

On the Nag Mandir road, mud seeped into homes and businesses, and a small bridge washed away, disrupting traffic on the Dharamshala-Sidhwari road. The flash flood also caused damage to a few vehicles.
